UN Secretary-General: It is possible to avoid the restoration of sanctions against Iran

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the restoration of sanctions against Iran can be avoided if the parties choose the path of diplomacy. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“I believe there is still time to avoid the restoration of sanctions. I call on Iran and other countries to engage in diplomacy and create an atmosphere of trust so that this can be avoided,” he said during a press conference at the global organization's platform.

Guterres added that the UN is in contact with all parties involved on this matter.

It is worth noting that on September 9, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed an agreement in Cairo to restore cooperation. The document was signed by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
