Language Clash at Gyumri City Council Meeting

During today's Gyumri City Council meeting, a project proposed by the 'Mother Armenia' coalition was adopted with 18 votes in favor. The proposal suggests the establishment of a free economic zone in Gyumri and grants the city the status of a free city in terms of tax regime.

The project was presented in the council by Karen Simonian, the leader of the 'Mother Armenia' faction. Tensions arose during the discussion.

“Serious work has been done, you’re taking action. You’re taking action... that’s why we’re here, that’s why Artsakh is gone, and the Turks are sitting above Jermuk. Tomorrow or the day after, they will come to Gyumri, and we’ll be under fire,” said a council member during the heated debate.
