Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan Agree on Restoration of Railway Corridor

The head of the International Relations Center of Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Amin Tarafan, has announced that Islamabad, Tehran, and Istanbul have reached an agreement on the restoration of the railway corridor. In an interview with Mehr, he stated, “Transportation, both bilateral and transit, is one of the most important areas of cooperation between the two countries and can play a decisive role in expanding economic exchanges.”

The Tehran-Islamabad-Istanbul railway corridor is one of the oldest communication routes between Iran and Pakistan, which has been in operation for many years but now requires restoration.

Tarafan noted that during recent negotiations, the three countries—Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey—agreed on establishing regular railway services. According to the Iranian official, the restoration of joint railway lines between Iran and Pakistan is very important. The Zahedan-Mirjaveh railway connection has nearly a century-long history, and studies conducted in that direction indicate that the route needs to be reconstructed and modernized to meet new standards.
