Ryuten Warns Madrid and London of Threat from Russian Missiles

Russian missiles could swiftly reach London or Madrid, making the corresponding threat not limited to NATO's eastern flank. This warning was issued by NATO Secretary General Mark Ryuten during a press conference.

“Overall, I do not like this entire concept of thinking from the perspective of the 'eastern flank,' as it creates the impression that if I live in Madrid or London, I am safer than if I lived in Tallinn. And that is not true. Because these new Russian missiles, when launched, travel at five times the speed of sound, and they will reach Madrid or London only five or ten minutes later than they will reach Tallinn or Vilnius,” Ryuten stated.

According to him, NATO members must perceive the situation as if all alliance countries are living on the eastern flank.

On September 12, Ryuten announced the launch of the “Eastern Guardian” operation, which involves the deployment of aircraft, air defense systems, and military forces to Poland and other eastern flank countries, closer to the borders of Belarus and Russia.

Previously, the U.S. had pointed out NATO's serious weakness on the eastern flank.
