Kim Jong Un Bans Use of 'Hamburger', 'Karaoke', and 'Ice Cream' Terms

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has banned the use of the terms 'hamburger', 'karaoke', and 'ice cream', deeming them foreign expressions incompatible with the cultural code of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Tour guides at the Wonsan resort have been instructed not to use such terms when interacting with foreigners, according to The Sun.

Instead of the usual names, 'ideologically correct' Korean analogues are being introduced. Hamburgers are now referred to as 'double bread with minced meat', while karaoke has been termed 'screen accompaniment device.'
