Germany Increases Bundeswehr Presence in NATO's Eastern Flank
Berlin and Paris have taken decisive diplomatic actions following the incursion of Russian drones into Poland's airspace. Germany's Foreign Ministry has announced that it summoned the Russian ambassador, as reported by Bild.
“Putin's actions in employing Russian drones in NATO airspace are dangerous and unacceptable. NATO countries are united in protecting the alliance's territory and our security,” the statement read.
Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's statement, emphasizing that he does not consider the violation of Poland's airspace by Russian drones to be an error and that it could not possibly be a mistake.
In response, the German government has increased the Bundeswehr's presence in NATO's eastern flank; now four instead of two fighter jets will be on duty to patrol Poland's skies.
France has also summoned the Russian ambassador in Paris. Acting Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated on France Inter that Moscow must cease its “testing of NATO and allied forces' strength.”
