Number of Minors in Armenian Orphanages
Currently, there are 366 minors in orphanages in Armenia. This was announced on September 8 during a session of the National Assembly discussing a package of laws on amendments and additions to the Family Code, along with changes in related legislation, by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Tatevik Stepanyan.
Most of these children, as noted by the Deputy Minister, have severe forms of disabilities. “The dynamics of their adoption have hardly changed in recent years,” Stepanyan said.
According to the government representative, on average, 25 children are adopted. One or two of these are adopted under “international adoption” frameworks. “Most of these are children with certain health issues,” the Deputy Minister stated.
