Minister of Internal Affairs on the Arrest of Narek Mkrtchyan's Brother

This can never be perceived as a cover-up or concealment of an incident. If the ministry intended to conceal something, the fact of the arrest would not have reached the public. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, during a conversation with reporters regarding the circulating information related to an incident involving the brother of the newly appointed Armenian Ambassador to the USA, Narek Mkrtchyan.

She noted that during the incident in Parakar, the driver of the vehicle, who is the ambassador's brother, did not possess any prohibited items. "Nothing was found on the driver. However, given the fact that the passenger fled and items were thrown from him, where preliminary findings indicated a substance resembling narcotics and a firearm, it was logical for the patrol service to carry out an arrest," stated Sargsyan.

The minister added that after being detained, nothing was found on the driver at the police station either. "An investigation is currently underway. The preliminary investigation will provide a final answer as to whether the ambassador's brother transferred his bag to a friend or if it actually belonged to the passenger. Based on the available information at this moment, it is confirmed that nothing was found on Narek Mkrtchyan's brother," said the Minister of Internal Affairs.

It is worth recalling that on September 3, the brother of the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Armenia to the USA, Narek Mkrtchyan, was arrested. Narek Mkrtchyan responded to his brother's arrest, stating, "I learned about the incident from the same media as you. In Armenia, whether my brother or someone else's brother, everyone is equal before the law. An investigation will take place, the guilty will be revealed, and they will surely bear the full severity of the law. As for my political team, my influence, neither my public status nor my current position can have any effect or interference. Therefore, follow the legal processes, and I will be monitoring them just like you."
