The West Will Have to Address the Root Causes of the Ukraine Crisis, Says Zakharova

Statements about various configurations of leaders' meetings on the Ukraine issue indicate that the West does not wish to address the root causes of the crisis but will ultimately have to do so. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during the Eastern Economic Forum, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“This is happening because the West is not ready, does not want or cannot start addressing the root causes of the crisis. They are doing everything to distract attention, perhaps to postpone the onset of the inevitable. It is necessary to start working on eliminating the root causes of this crisis, conflict, and tragedy,” she emphasized while commenting on the continually changing statements regarding the possible composition of the upcoming high-level meeting on Ukraine in the West.

Speaking about the root causes, Zakharova pointed to the 'Nazi essence of the Kyiv regime, which does not wish to take into account the interests of the people it considers its citizens.'

“I understand that the West does not want to work on the root causes, I understand that this would contradict everything they have done over the years, but they must and will have to,” she stressed.

The 10th Eastern Economic Forum is taking place from September 3-6 in Vladivostok, within the territory of the Far Eastern Federal University. This year's main theme of the forum is 'The Far East: Cooperation for Peace and Prosperity.' RIA Novosti is the main information partner of the forum.
