In the Long Term, There Will Be No Armenians Left in Syunik: Former Chief of Staff

During a conversation with reporters, the former Chief of Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces and former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, Movses Hakobyan, stated that while the implementation of agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan may initially lead to favorable conditions in Syunik, he believes that in the long term, there will be no Armenians left in the region. He speculates that the area will be populated by Azerbaijanis.

According to him, the principle of reciprocity in the pre-signed documents between Yerevan and Baku is very dangerous.

Hakobyan expressed that given the demographic and economic characteristics, it can be said that the ratio will be 1 to 20 thousand: that is, 20 thousand Azerbaijanis will cross into Armenian territory, while relatively speaking, only one Armenian will be able to do that.

He also pointed out that Azerbaijan does not renounce the use of force. “As a result of the positions occupied during the military operations of 2022, they will be able to ensure the safe movement of their citizens within Armenian territory,” Hakobyan added.
