Members of the Armenian Parliament's 'Hayastan' Faction Issue Statement
Members of the Armenian Parliament's 'Hayastan' faction, Anna Grigoryan, Arthur Khachatryan, Gegham Manukyan, and Kristine Vardanyan, have issued a statement: "In an interview broadcast by the Public Television on August 27, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan claimed that the question of securing a specific map has never been included in the draft agreement being discussed with Azerbaijan. He even sarcastically asks, 'What kind of peace agreement would have a map?' We officially declare: Ararat Mirzoyan is lying.
According to the process of agreeing on the draft document, the Armenian representatives proposed to use the Soviet General Staff maps from 1974-1979 as the basis for demarcation and delimitation. The Azerbaijani side suggested a general formulation without specifying any maps from particular years. As evident from the published text of the pre-signed document, Armenia has also conceded on this point, accepting another demand from Azerbaijan. This means that the exact outline of the Republic of Armenia's border has not been secured by the document. This fact once again shows that negotiations are proceeding in the logic of fully satisfying Azerbaijan's demands, and Armenian representatives have not recorded any achievements that would protect our country's territorial integrity.
The only way to refute this statement is to fully publish all negotiated packages. Only then will the complete misery of the current negotiating 'team' be exposed. The purpose of the current administration has never been to ensure pro-Armenian formulations. Their only goal is to legitimize Azerbaijan's demands and create the illusion of a lack of alternatives in the eyes of the people. This is the essence of power: to lie, mislead, and justify Azerbaijan's demands."
