3 Countries Urge UN Not to Reinstate Anti-Iran Sanctions

The foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, and China, Abbas Araghchi, Sergey Lavrov, and Wang Yi, have sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, urging the Security Council not to allow the restoration of sanctions against Iran by the 'E3' countries. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“We call on the members of the UN Security Council to reject the initiative of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom regarding the activation of the sanctions restoration mechanism and to affirm their commitment to the principles of international law and multilateral diplomacy,” the text of the three ministers' letter is quoted on the official page of Iran's Foreign Minister on social media.

Last week, the foreign ministers of the 'E3' (the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) announced in a joint statement that they had informed the UN Security Council about the activation of the sanctions restoration mechanism within 30 days against Iran.

The ministers also called on the 'E3' to abandon its unconstructive approach towards Iran.

It is noteworthy that in 2015, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, France, and Iran signed a nuclear deal that included the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limits on Iran's nuclear program.
