India-China Relations Are Being Restored

India is ready to develop relations with China based on mutual trust and respect. This statement was made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The largest SCO summit in the organization's history is being held in Tianjin, China, with participation from over 20 leaders of foreign states, as well as representatives from international organizations.

Xi Jinping stated that being friends is the right choice for both countries. “We should be partners that contribute to each other's success, so that the dragon and the elephant can unite,” said the Chinese leader.

According to Western media, the central theme of the SCO summit will be the ongoing rapprochement between China and India. Relations between India and China deteriorated sharply after a series of clashes in the Ladakh region in May 2020, following which both sides strengthened their military presence in the region.

In February 2021, most of the troops that had been moved to the region were withdrawn, and both sides continued negotiations. In early September 2022, the countries conducted a new phase of troop withdrawal at the border, although not all issues have been resolved.
