Erdogan Sends Signal to the West by Urging Zelensky to Negotiate
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, by calling on Vladimir Zelensky to continue the negotiation process for resolving the Ukrainian conflict, sends a signal to the West that Ankara intends to maintain a neutral mediator position. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a Turkish diplomatic source.
“President Erdogan confirms Ankara's strategic position as a potential mediator between Kyiv and Moscow. Turkey is positioning itself not only as an observer but also as an active participant in the negotiation process, capable of initiating and maintaining high-level dialogue. The main message is to find a fair solution and to continue negotiations,” said the agency's source.
He noted that the statement that Turkey will continue its contribution to Ukraine’s security is important for Ankara's image. “This is a signal to Kyiv and its Western partners that Turkey is ready to support Ukraine exclusively within the context of a peaceful resolution, emphasizing its neutral and mediating stance. Turkey seeks to strengthen its role as an international mediator, fortifying Ankara's position as a diplomatically active player in the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, and maintaining a balance between Western and Russian interests,” the source added.
