Ukraine Knocks Out 17% of Russian Oil Refining Capacity: Reuters
In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, dealing a significant blow to a key source of funding for the Russian military, according to Reuters.
The latest strikes by Kyiv on ten Russian oil refineries have destroyed at least 17% of Russia's total oil refining capacity, equivalent to approximately 1.1 million barrels per day.
Russian oil refineries, oil depots, and military-industrial facilities have increasingly become targets of Ukraine. In this way, Kyiv is weakening Moscow's ability to refine and export oil. Ukraine's campaign has also resulted in a gas deficit in several regions of Russia.
The attacks on oil refineries come during the peak seasonal demand for gasoline. In July, prior to the escalation of attacks by Kyiv, Russia had already tightened its export ban on gasoline in response to increasing domestic demand.
Amid Ukraine's actions, several regions in Russia are experiencing a shortage of gasoline.
