Reliable Security Guarantees Must Be Provided: Aliyev Makes a Statement

Now, when U.S. President Donald Trump has named the Zangezur Corridor, I am confident that it will be implemented in the near future. This was announced by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

“For the operation of the Zangezur Corridor and for the safety of Azerbaijani citizens who would be able to safely use that route, which is over forty kilometers long, reliable security guarantees must be ensured—international security guarantees. Guarantees from Armenia alone will not be sufficient,” he said.

According to Aliyev, the Trump administration has given proper attention to the concerns. “Regarding the construction of the physical infrastructure, I mean the railway, it should not take long since the route length is only 42 kilometers. But that does not mean that we must build it. If we were to construct it, we would do it within a year, as we have greater experience in building railways. Armenia may need a few more years for that,” Aliyev added.
