Aliyev's Statement Marks a Move Against Russia, Says Zatulinin

The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has taken a step against Russia by labeling the conflict in Ukraine as an invasion by Russia. This statement was made by Konstantin Zatulinin, a member of the State Duma.

Regarding the recognition of Ukraine's territorial integrity, Zatulinin pointed out that Aliyev is not deviating from the truth. Azerbaijan has maintained this stance since the return of Crimea, though it has not been as vocal about it as it is now. From the very beginning, Baku held a position that differs from, and at times even seems hostile to, Russia's stance. Over time, we have begun to notice this, despite it being something that should have been observed from the start,” the lawmaker stated.

Zatulinin explained that at a certain point, Azerbaijan was restrained by the understanding of the advantages of cooperation with Russia, but that is no longer as relevant. According to the deputy, Aliyev no longer needs mediation from Moscow, as he now has the support of the United States.

Earlier, Aliyev stated that the Republic has supported Ukraine's territorial integrity since the first days of the conflict. He also referred to the war in Ukraine as a “Russian invasion.”
