Tehran to Take Countermeasures Against Kyiv
Tehran will take countermeasures against Kyiv following Ukraine's decision to terminate a memorandum of understanding that allowed citizens with diplomatic and service passports from Iran to enter the country visa-free. This announcement was made by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Baghaei.
“We will take measures in response to Ukraine's decision to revoke visa-free entry for Iranian citizens holding diplomatic passports. Details are being worked out,” Baghaei stated during a press conference.
It is worth noting that on August 20, a representative of the Ukrainian government in the Supreme Rada, Taras Melnychuk, announced that the cabinet had terminated the memorandum on visa-free travel for citizens with diplomatic and service passports, which was signed in March 1993 with Iran. In November 2024, Kyiv also canceled the 1993 air traffic agreement with Tehran. Ukraine, in turn, has accused Iran of assisting Russia in the conflict.
