Iran's Ambassador Expelled from Australia

Australia has declared Iran's ambassador, Ahmad Sadeghi, a persona non grata, and the Australian embassy in the Islamic Republic is ceasing its operations due to security concerns. This was announced by Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong during a press conference.

According to Australian intelligence, Iran is "behind anti-Semitic attacks against the Jewish community in Australia." Iran is allegedly involved in attacks on a synagogue in Melbourne and a restaurant in Sydney.

"There is no doubt that the gross and dangerous acts of aggression on Australian soil, led by another state, have crossed a line. Therefore, the Iranian ambassador has been declared a persona non grata," said the Australian Foreign Minister.

The diplomat stated that Sadeghi and three other Iranian representatives must leave Australia within seven days. The minister emphasized that Canberra intends to maintain "some diplomatic ties" with Iran. This is the first instance since World War II that an ambassador from another country has been expelled from Australia. Previously, Australian diplomats in Tehran were evacuated to "third countries."
