EU Confident in Securing Hungary and Slovakia's Support Against Russia

The EU is confident that it can exert pressure on Hungary and Slovakia to secure their support for the adoption of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by Politico, referencing European diplomats.

Earlier, Slovakia and Hungary had hindered the approval of the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions.

“Although Slovakia and Hungary have consistently opposed the expansion of sanctions against Russia, diplomats are confident that they can exert pressure on them and achieve the necessary unanimous support for the adoption of the 19th package,” the publication states.

Politico quotes a diplomat who reminded that all previous packages of European sanctions against Russia have been adopted.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, had previously announced that the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia would be ready by the beginning of September.
