Dissatisfaction in Germany Over Support for Ukraine
The Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance of Germany, Lars Klingbeil, is spending billions in Kyiv while plans are underway to raise taxes in Germany, stated Alissa Weidel, co-chair of one of the political parties.
“Germany's Finance Minister Klingbeil is spending billions in Kyiv, while he wants to raise taxes in our country. More than 50 billion euros have already been sent in aid to Ukraine. Taxpayer money should be spent on our own citizens,” Weidel wrote on the social media platform X.
Similar sentiments have been expressed by members of other parties, who recalled that Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced intentions to change the universal welfare state system, as it is no longer financially viable in its current form.
“One day later, his deputy Lars Klingbeil travels to Kyiv and allocates an additional 9 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine on behalf of the German government. After over 50 billion euros of tax money has already been spent on Ukraine, additional billions for supplying weapons to Kyiv are easily financed, but there is no money left in Germany for pensions, the sick, children, and families,” Alissa Weidel remarked on the social media platform X.
