Agreement Reached on Strategic Partnership with the United Kingdom, Says Armenian Foreign Ministry

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Vahan Kostanyan, and the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Dowden, held the second phase of the Armenia-United Kingdom strategic dialogue in Yerevan on August 26, 2025. This was announced by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

Building on the first meeting of the Strategic Dialogue held in London in 2023, both sides assessed the progress made and reaffirmed the importance of high-level periodic communications for the further strengthening and expansion of the Armenia-United Kingdom bilateral partnership.

Both parties reiterated their firm commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of fundamental human rights at regional and global levels, grounded in a respect for shared values, international law, democratic principles, and the rules-based international order.

The Armenian side presented the ongoing democratic transformations in the country, including efforts aimed at strengthening democracy, promoting the rule of law, protecting human rights, and expanding anti-corruption measures. The United Kingdom highly appreciated Armenia's progress and reaffirmed its support for the continuity of these reforms.

The parties agreed to elevate their relations to the level of Strategic Partnership. They discussed the expansion of cooperation in the areas of security and defense, including future high-level interactions, exchanges of military attachés on defense issues, and closer cooperation in the fields of cybersecurity and hybrid threat response.

In the context of elevating the relationship level, both sides emphasized the importance of the continued deepening of economic cooperation. Armenia and the United Kingdom have agreed to raise the level of their relations to that of strategic partnership, with the intention of deepening business ties and promoting economic growth through cooperation.
