Russians preserve Armenia's sovereignty. Those who want the Russian military base to leave are essentially wishing for Armenia to become a Turkish province. This was stated by the Mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasian, in an interview with 24News.

“These people are selling their homeland for money. They are special Turkish agents who want Armenia to become a Turkish province. Here, there will either be Russians or Turks. If they want to remove Christians from here and bring in the Muslim moon, what can I say to them?” said Mayor Vardan Ghukasian.
