Enemies Demand the Declaration be Removed from the Constitution's Preamble, Striking Directly at Our Identity: Former Head of the State Revenue Committee

Former Head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, economist Davit Ananian, wrote:

“Today marks the 35th anniversary of Armenia's Declaration of Independence. 35 years ago, our people proclaimed their right to independence based on the principle of free self-determination, the restoration of historical justice, and the aspirations of the entire Armenian nation. The Declaration became the cornerstone of our statehood, defining the path of Armenia’s independence and providing a solid foundation for our national identity and sovereignty.

Today, our enemies are demanding that the Declaration be removed from the Constitution's preamble, aiming to strike a direct blow at our identity, our historical continuity, and the foundations of our statehood. The removal of the Declaration means that they are trying to deprive us not only of our past but also of our future.

The Declaration is the political charter of our existence; it connects the independences of 1918 and 1990, Artsakh and Armenia, the Diaspora and the Homeland. It is a real formula that affirms that the Republic of Armenia was created not by chance, but as the result of historical justice and millennia of struggle.

To abandon the Declaration means to sever this vital connection and undermine the roots of our statehood. Today, more than ever, we are obliged to defend the Declaration as a key guarantee of our historical memory, our sovereignty, and our future.

The Declaration is our oath. The Declaration is the living foundation of our statehood. Defending the Declaration is defending our future.”
