Iran's Foreign Ministry: There are Two or Three Points Regarding the Preliminary Signing of the Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan

The spokesperson of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei, stated that the preliminary signing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a sovereign decision of the two countries, but there are two or three points related to it.

“As in the past, we welcome the preliminary signing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. A peace agreement that will pave the way for stable security in the region. Another point is the discussions surrounding the creation of a route from Southern Armenia to Nakhchivan, regarding which we have repeatedly expressed our position. We have often stated that we are in favor of lifting the blockade and creating communication routes, but these routes must be implemented while respecting internationally recognized borders and without altering geopolitical conditions,” he said.

Baghaei emphasized that Iran does not consider the presence of foreign armed forces in the region to be beneficial, expressing their concerns regarding this issue. “We have been assured that foreign armed forces will not be deployed in the region,” he stressed.

According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, one of the important provisions of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia has been the emphasis on not deploying foreign armed forces at the borders of the two countries: “We have expressed our concerns about this, are closely monitoring developments in this direction, and are in close contact with the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia. We do not believe that the presence of foreign military forces in the region is conducive to peace and stability,” he added.
