When Dealing with Legal Absurdity, You Encounter an Incomprehensible Reality: Vardevanyan

There has never been a second case of such transparent Facebook justice with a political component. This was stated by Aram Vardevanyan, one of the defenders of Samvel Karapetyan, in front of the Anti-Corruption Court a short while ago.

According to him, the investigator submitted a petition, and the defense asked the investigator questions for about two hours.

“When you deal with legal absurdity, you confront an incomprehensible reality. Today’s petition has nothing to do with Samvel Karapetyan; the investigator came to court without any grounds. There is no criminal element in Samvel Karapetyan’s words,” said the lawyer.

Aram Vardevanyan did not rule out that as an extreme measure, they might consider filing a petition for an alternative measure of restraint, including house arrest: “If Kirk Kirkoryan were alive, a criminal case would have been initiated against him for money laundering as well.”

It should be noted that Samvel Karapetyan was arrested on June 18 for two months. He is charged with seizing power and publicly calling for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order. Karapetyan does not accept the charges, and his defense team insists that the charges against him are groundless.

Karapetyan was arrested for making a statement supporting the Armenian Apostolic Church. Addressing the relationship between the church and the government, he told NEWS.am in an interview: “A small group, forgetting the history of the Armenians and the thousands of years of history of the Armenian Church, has attacked the Armenian Church and the Armenian people. Since I have always been alongside the Armenian Church and the Armenian people, I will have direct participation. If politicians fail, then we will also participate in our own way.”
