Turkey to Provide Weapons and Military Equipment to Syria

Turkey will provide Syria with weapons, military equipment, and logistics support under a recently signed defense cooperation agreement, reports the Associated Press.

This announcement came one day after Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Kasr signed a memorandum of understanding concerning military training and advisory cooperation, reinforcing Turkey's support for the Syrian interim government.

Last month, Syria requested assistance from Turkey to enhance its defense capabilities following religious violence in the country that also led to Israeli intervention. According to the agreement, Turkey will exchange its "knowledge and experience" and supply military equipment, weapon systems, and logistical materials to strengthen the country's capabilities, stated officials from the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
