Gas in Exchange for Electricity: Full Capacity Utilization of Iran-Armenia Gas Pipeline Possible

The government has made a decision that will allow for the expedited completion of the "Construction of the Iran-Armenia 400 kV Electricity Transmission Line and Related Substation" program, aimed at mitigating further increases in electricity tariffs for the end consumer. In the budget for the first nine months of 2025, a total of 10,029,980.0 thousand drams is planned, with 13,529,980.0 thousand drams earmarked for the entire year. However, due to the extension of the competitive processes for the implementation of these initiatives, it is possible that 828,000.0 thousand drams will be allocated to the "High Voltage Electric Grids" company for the first nine months and 1,035,000.0 thousand drams for the entire year. Funds amounting to 1,035,000.0 thousand drams have been redistributed to be utilized within the framework of the program for the period of 2026-2028.

By adopting this decision, the program will be completed in a timely manner, allowing electricity exchanges between Armenia and Iran to increase from 350 MW to up to 1200 MW. This will enhance the security, reliability, and stability of Armenia's energy system, and create an opportunity to fully utilize the capacity of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline within the framework of the "Gas in Exchange for Electricity" program.
