Sanctions Against Iran to Be Extended: The Financial Times

France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have informed the UN that they are ready to restore sanctions against Iran if Tehran does not agree to a nuclear deal by the end of summer, reports The Financial Times.

“We have clarified that if Iran does not wish to reach a diplomatic solution by the end of August 2025 or does not take advantage of the extension option, the E3 is prepared to initiate the mechanism for restoring previous sanctions,” the foreign ministers of the three countries stated in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

It is noted that the second round of Iran-E3 negotiations was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers in Istanbul. During the talks, the Iranian delegation insisted on the suspension of sanctions and the preservation of its right to enrich uranium.

The publication reports that the sanctions are set to expire in October; however, Europeans are expected to raise the issue of extending them. “They want Tehran to take steps to resume the work of IAEA inspectors at Iran's nuclear facilities and transfer highly enriched uranium stockpiles to another country,” the article states.

It is worth mentioning that Iran previously halted cooperation with the IAEA in June following attacks by Israel and the United States on its nuclear facilities.
