Armenia Engages in Significant Dialogue on Humanitarian Issues, Including Prisoners

During the negotiations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenia engaged in significant dialogue on humanitarian issues as well. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in a briefing with reporters after the signing of a trilateral declaration with Azerbaijan and the U.S. in Washington.

“Our documents do not express this, but I want you to know that very significant and important discussions have also taken place regarding humanitarian issues. As I have said before, we do not bypass the issue of our missing compatriots, the issue of our compatriots who are held captive and are not free during any negotiations,” he said.

He emphasized that he has adopted an approach of not making any prior statements on such matters, considering the sensitivity and existing nuances of the issue. Pashinyan recalled the return of Armenian prisoners from Azerbaijan in December 2023, noting that at that time, no statements were made until the last moment, as circumstances could have affected the process.

“In this regard, we have addressed the issue in the most concerned manner, at the highest level, and we will be persistent in finding solutions to these problems,” emphasized the Prime Minister of Armenia.
