Unprecedented High Nighttime Temperatures Recorded

The Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center reports that for over a week, high thermal background has been observed throughout the Republic. Such prolonged hot weather is commonly referred to as 'heatwaves,' which can be dangerous for people's health in certain regions.

Currently, Armenia is under the influence of tropical warm and powerful air currents that extend to elevations of 5-6 km. Daily average temperatures are higher than normal by 3-5 degrees.

According to observations from the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, quite high nighttime and daytime temperatures have been recorded from August 1 to 7. The highest nighttime temperatures were recorded in the low-lying areas of Yerevan and in the valleys of Vayots Dzor and Syunik. On August 5 and 7, unprecedented high nighttime temperatures were recorded at the Meghri and Yerevan-Agro (Mardzavan) weather stations, where temperatures did not drop below 28.5 °C throughout the night.

The hot weather also led to elevated daytime temperatures. Maximum temperatures exceeded 40 °C in Areni (42.6 °C), Yerevan (41.9 °C), Ararat Province (41.3 °C), Ashtarak (41 °C), and Armavir (40.4 °C).
