The Strongest Magnetic Storm of the Last Two Months Expected

The Institute of Solar Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reports: "The strongest magnetic storm in the last two months is expected to hit Earth on August 8. According to calculations, the massive eruption of solar activity, rated M4.4, which occurred on August 5, will result in a mass ejection approaching Earth, producing significantly stronger geomagnetic effects than previously expected. Models have shown that a high-speed moving cloud core will strike the planet, and its impact on the magnetic field could be much stronger than anticipated," the report states.

It is noted that the plasma will reach Earth on August 8, approximately at 08:00 Yerevan time. However, according to forecasts, the beginning of the deterioration of the geomagnetic situation is expected to start from Thursday to Friday night, as "the Earth will enter the operational zone of another large coronal hole."

"At the time of the full impact, the Kp geomagnetic index is predicted to rise to a value of 6 (corresponding to the G2 level (moderate)), which is the highest value since June 13 when a storm of this level was last recorded."
