Trump Comments on Putin and Whitkoff Meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump has praised the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and White House Special Envoy Steven Whitkoff. “My special envoy, Steve Whitkoff, just had a very productive meeting with President Vladimir Putin,” he wrote on his Truth Social page.

He also mentioned that he plans to work on halting military operations in the coming days and weeks. The conversation lasted for more than three hours. This marks Donald Trump's special envoy's fifth trip to Russia in 2025.

As clarified by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the leaders of the two countries exchanged signals regarding Ukraine through Steven Whitkoff. Ushakov described the meeting as useful and constructive. He also noted that, in addition to the Ukrainian conflict, the prospects for developing strategic cooperation between Moscow and Washington were discussed.
