The Figures Announced by Gevorg Papoyan Do Not Match Official Data: 'Zhoghovurd'
The numbers announced by the Minister of Economy do not match the official data from the Ministry of Economy. Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan recently stated that tourists arriving in Armenia for Jennifer Lopez's concert spent an average of $888. This estimate sparked considerable public interest and discussion. That figure, to put it mildly, is highly exaggerated, reports the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd.'
According to a study published on the official website of the Ministry of Economy, the average spending of a tourist with moderate purchasing power in Armenia is merely $51 per day. If we assume that tourists arriving for Jennifer Lopez's concert stayed for, say, three days, their total spending would be approximately $150, which is several times less than the $888 mentioned by the minister.
Moreover, according to the ministry's data, the daily spending of tourists arriving from Russia, Georgia, and Iran is particularly low, ranging from only $35 to $47. Considering that the main flow of tourism to Armenia comes from these countries, it is hard to imagine that, during the concert period, exclusively high-spending tourists appeared, exceeding even European tourists in their expenditures.
Thus, the figures released by Minister Papoyan are, as always, exaggerated and highly approximate.
