Spartakyan Dismissed from Honorary Consul Position in Yekaterinburg Due to Disagreement on Karapetyan's Detention

Narek Spartakyan has been dismissed from his position as the honorary consul in Yekaterinburg. This was reported by the Russian news outlet URA.ru, which stated that Spartakyan was removed from office due to disagreements with the Armenian leadership regarding the Armenian Apostolic Church's stance and the detention of businessman Samvel Karapetyan.

“Narek Spartakyan has been relieved of his duties as the honorary consul of Armenia in the Sverdlovsk region of the Russian Federation,” the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Sputnik Armenia. The ministry did not provide further details. The Foreign Ministry also did not respond to inquiries regarding whether this decision was connected to Spartakyan's disagreements.

It is noteworthy that Spartakyan has expressed that he considers any actions against the Armenian Apostolic Church unacceptable, as it is a vital foundation for the spiritual unity of the Armenian community. Regarding Karapetyan's arrest, he mentioned that, like all Armenians, he holds great respect for the businessman, viewing him as a vivid example of how to build and create.

Spartakyan grew up in Yekaterinburg and graduated from the Ural Federal University named after Boris Yeltsin. He has worked in the human rights ombudsman's office in the Sverdlovsk region. He was appointed honorary consul in 2018.
