Brazil to Respond to US Tariff Hike with Emergency Plan

Brazil will respond to the sharp increase in tariffs imposed by the United States by developing an emergency plan and appealing to the World Trade Organization (WTO), announced President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

At a meeting of the Council for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development in Brazil, the president labeled the US actions as "unjust" and emphasized Brazil's progress on the international stage.

"The government is making a commitment to the people of Brazil. We will implement an emergency plan to mitigate this unjust attack and soften its economic and social damages," said Lula da Silva.

"We will protect Brazilian workers and companies affected by these measures and will use all available mechanisms, including the WTO, to advocate for our interests," he added.

He mentioned that Brazil is continuing negotiations, noting that talks with US authorities have been ongoing since March. Brazil will officially announce its response to the tariff increase on August 18, when its foreign ministry will present a request to the WTO to dispute the US measures.
