Trump Promises New Sanctions Against Russia

Donald Trump has promised to impose new sanctions against Russia if his special envoy's trip to Moscow does not lead to a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine.

So far, the U.S. administration has increased pressure on only one importer of Russian oil—India. The White House has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that since 2022, the country has significantly increased its purchases of oil from Russia. Russian crude accounts for about 35% of India's imports.

India, for its part, has stated that it will continue to buy Russian oil despite U.S. pressure.
