The Leader of Gagauzia Sentenced to 7 Years
The Chișinău District Court has sentenced the leader of Gagauzia (an autonomous region within Moldova), Evgenia Guțul, to seven years in prison related to the financing of the banned "Șor" party in Moldova. This was reported by attorney Natalia Bayram.
"Guțul has been sentenced to seven years in prison, with immediate enforcement of the penalty. She will be transferred directly to prison from the courtroom," Bayram stated.
The leader of Gagauzia, Evgenia Guțul, and her associate, Svetlana Popa, who was also found guilty, were detained in the courtroom. It is worth noting that Guțul was arrested on March 25 at Chișinău International Airport and was held for 20 days. The prosecutor's office accuses Gagauzia's leader of financing the "Șor" party, which has been deemed unconstitutional in the republic. Initially, the court decided that Guțul should remain in custody until April 14, but on April 9, the measure was changed to 30 days of house arrest.
