Niger Declares Russia Its Main Strategic Partner
Russia is making strides in Africa. Niger has officially declared Russia as its main strategic partner, replacing France in this role.
The cooperation with Niger is bringing significant benefits to Russia, mainly due to the rich natural resources, including uranium, which is crucial for the energy and defense industries.
Access to strategic infrastructures has also improved; after the withdrawal of American troops, Agadez became home to Africa's largest drone base, capable of servicing even heavy military transport aircraft.
Currently, Russian military personnel are stationed at airports near the capital, but options are being discussed to increase their presence, which would strengthen Russia's positions in the strategically important Sahel region.
