Yerevan Among the World’s 5 Pink Cities According to Le Figaro
The prestigious French publication Le Figaro has highlighted five "pink" cities worldwide, with Armenia's capital, Yerevan, making the list.
According to the article, the other three pink cities are all located in France: Toulouse, Albi, and Montauban, while the fifth is Jaipur in India. The article states, "To see life through rose-tinted glasses, there’s no need to wait for love letters. Visiting these cities is enough to feel the joy of this color."
The publication mentions the color harmony in Republic Square, as well as the pink tuff buildings that characterize Yerevan.
“Although Yerevan is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, founded before Rome in 782 BC, it has only recently earned the title of 'pink city.' This name was bestowed during the 20th century, during the Soviet reconstruction period. Architect Alexander Tamanyan, who was tasked with redesigning the city in the 1920s and 1930s, decided to make it a symbol of urban harmony by extensively using this stone (pink tuff) in the large boulevards and central squares,” the publication adds.
