We Hope Armenia and Azerbaijan Understand the Risks: Zakharova

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, responded during a press conference to information in Azerbaijani media regarding deepening cooperation with NATO, and also addressed Armenia. This was reported by TASS.

“You know that NATO, as an alliance, or its individual member states, have been trying to strengthen their presence in the South Caucasus for a long time. The objective of the alliance is, I think, obvious. We have spoken about this many times: that the main goal is to use the potential of the countries in the region and the resources in the interests of the collective West, especially in terms of geopolitical confrontation with our country. A comprehensive approach is required here. This means that they do not separate one from the other,” Zakharova said.

According to her, the West “does not need equal relations in the post-Soviet space.”

“They need to extract resources, pit countries against each other, ignite everything and simply maintain their position as typical colonizers, as typical enslavers, as typical imperialists. We hope that the countries of the region, including Azerbaijan and Armenia, realize the risks of deepening cooperation with NATO, because this truly poses risks, and the situation is escalating. And it is well known to everyone how it ends. Everywhere the North Atlantic alliance appears, confrontation prevails, military tension increases, the words ‘peace,’ ‘stability,’ ‘normality’ are forgotten. Instead, a new Western-imposed normality comes. Well, everything that we have seen multiple times follows,” the diplomat noted.
