Trafficking Cases on the Rise in Armenia: Details

Trafficking in Armenia is predominantly characterized by forced or compulsory labor, as well as forms of sexual exploitation. This was stated today at a press conference by Tigran Kirakosyan, a representative of the Investigative Committee.

"In 2020, there were 10 registered trafficking cases in the Republic, including 1 case of sexual exploitation. In 2021, there were 16 criminal cases, 7 related to labor exploitation and 9 to sexual exploitation. In 2022, there were 8 criminal cases, with 4 cases each of labor and sexual exploitation. In 2023, 27 criminal proceedings were initiated; 4 for sexual exploitation and 23 for labor exploitation. In 2024, 38 criminal proceedings were filed, including 20 for sexual exploitation and 18 for labor exploitation. During the first half of 2025, there were 22 criminal proceedings, comprising 15 cases of sexual exploitation and 7 of labor exploitation," Kirakosyan reported.
