Abnormal Heat Expected in Armenia: Weather Update

Short-lived rain and thunderstorms are expected in some regions of the Republic of Armenia today and tomorrow after noon, with hail also possible. This was reported by the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia.

According to the report, the wind will be from the west at 2-5 m/s, with a gusty wind expected during thunderstorms at speeds of 17-20 m/s. The air temperature will rise by another 1-2 degrees today.

"Due to the influx of tropical hot air from the south, from July 30-31 and August 1-3, high thermal backgrounds are expected in the Ararat Plain, in the foothills of Vayots Dzor, in the valleys of Syunik, and in Yerevan. During the day, temperatures will rise to +38…+40 degrees Celsius between 16:00 and 17:00. High fire danger is also expected in the mentioned areas, as well as in the foothills of Aragatsotn and Kotayk in the coming 5 days," the report states.

In Yerevan, short-lived rain and thunderstorms are also possible this evening in certain parts of the city, with gusty winds of 16-19 m/s during thunderstorms.
