Selling Homeland is One of the Most Horrific Crimes: Zakharova on America

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, commented to RIA Novosti on the idea of the United States purchasing the Commander Islands from Russia.

“This is fundamentally not worth commenting on, as selling one's homeland is considered, both by law and by conscience, one of the most horrific crimes,” Zakharova said.

Earlier, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Fritz, who serves in Estonia as part of the U.S. Army's security command, suggested that the possibility of buying the Commander Islands from Russia be considered. Fritz noted that the U.S. could use the Commander Islands to monitor potential Chinese submarine activity leading to the Arctic.
