Iran's Message to Pashinyan and the Turkey-Azerbaijan Tandem

The senior adviser on international affairs to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, has stated that the proposed ‘Zangezur Corridor’ project poses a direct threat to Iran's national security and regional ties. He asserted that this project, led by the United States and the Israeli regime, aims to undermine Iran's national security and its strategic connections. The corridor is intended to sever Iran's land connections with the Caucasus and impose a land blockade on both Iran and Russia from the south.

This information was reported by the ‘Past’ newspaper. Iran has clearly stated its opposition to the Zangezur Corridor, viewing it as part of a Greater Turan project. The Telegram channel ‘Republican Bulletin’ further elaborated that the implementation of the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ would strike a blow to Iran's territorial integrity, as Iranian Azerbaijan could become detached from Iran and join the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem.

Additionally, Iran perceives this corridor as an anti-Iranian initiative that seeks to isolate Iran from the Caucasus and Armenia. It is crucial for Iran to maintain a direct connection with Armenia and, via the North-South corridor, to have access through Armenia to Georgia and the Black Sea ports.

Iran's message is explicit: the US-Israel alliance and their regional allies, the Turkey-Azerbaijan-Pashinyan triad, are prepared to activate the ‘Zangezur Corridor’ as an anti-Russian and anti-Iranian project.

According to the authors, Pashinyan and his team, in pursuit of power, money, and re-election at all costs in 2026, are ready to transform Armenia into an anti-Russian and anti-Iranian platform, leading to disastrous consequences for Armenian statehood and the security of the Armenian people.

“If Pashinyan and the ruling party manage to stay in power, leaning on security forces, and through falsifications and imprisoning opposition members can secure their re-election in 2026, this will result in the loss of Armenian statehood and the closure of the Armenian issue, which Ankara and Baku long for. National and patriotic forces in Armenia, including the Armenian Apostolic Church, must achieve a change of government; this is no longer a political issue but the number one agenda for the preservation of the state and homeland,” the channel states, adding that the Turkish lobby will not relinquish power in Armenia willingly.
