Competition Protection Commission Continues to Study Liquefied Gas Market

The Competition Protection Commission of Armenia continues to study the liquefied gas market, and currently, no proceedings have been initiated. This was mentioned in a conversation with Sputnik Armenia by representatives of the Commission.

It was noted that more than 100 gas tanker trucks are stuck in Georgia and are unable to cross the Armenian-Georgian border, which has led to a sharp increase in gas prices. The price of liquefied gas has rapidly risen from 120 drams to 170-180 drams. Currently, the price of liquefied gas has reached 200 drams.

On July 18, the Commission announced that it started an investigation into the liquefied gas market, and partners were previously informed about this. The Commission also stated that the study of the liquefied gas market could take about a month, as there are around 90 market operators.

At this stage, the inquiries are ongoing.

In addressing the topic, Armenia's Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan responded to a question from a Facebook user today, stating that the issue falls within the jurisdiction of the Competition Protection Commission. The user reminded the minister that liquefied gas has been arriving normally in Armenia for 15 days, but the owners of gas stations have been increasing the prices, while the government is either unwilling or does nothing to affect this situation.
