Temporary Shelter for Migrants to Be Built at Georgian-Russian Border

A temporary accommodation facility for foreign citizens entering Georgia, as well as stateless individuals, will be constructed at the "Dariali" checkpoint. This was reported by Sputnik Georgia.

It is noted that the estimated cost of the project is 300,000 lari (about 111,000 dollars).

The facility will be built in accordance with the new law on "International Protection," which will come into force on October 1. According to the document, a foreigner or stateless person will have the right to submit an application for international protection at the Georgian border or in the transit zone, and the application will be examined immediately at the border checkpoint, without granting the person permission to enter the country.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia states in the justification for the project that there has been an increase in the number of individuals attempting to cross the Georgian border from Russia with invalid documents.
