Foreigners Banned from Working as Taxi Drivers in St. Petersburg

Foreigners are prohibited from working as taxi drivers in St. Petersburg until the end of 2025. The corresponding decree was signed by the city's governor, Alexander Beglov, as reported by the municipal administration's press service.

"The hiring of foreign citizens conducting activities classified under certain types of economic activity for Russian businesses is banned," the publication states.

City authorities noted that this decision aims to improve the quality and safety of taxi services and to create additional job opportunities for Russian citizens.

Entrepreneurs have been given a three-month transition period to terminate existing employment relationships with foreigners and to select new employees.

The administration added that the temporary restriction will allow them to assess the socio-economic impact of the ban and decide on its extension.

The publication will take effect ten days after its release.
