Martial Law in Eight Provinces of Thailand
Thailand's Border Defense Command has declared martial law in eight districts along the border with Cambodia in the Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. The measure is necessary to protect the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, as well as the lives and property of Thai citizens, and it takes effect immediately.
Clashes occurred between Cambodian and Thai military forces near the disputed border zone in Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey province on the morning of July 24. The Thai armed forces have stated that they used fighter planes to carry out strikes. Phnom Penh has confirmed that it is acting in self-defense.
