We Have Rejected the U.S. Proposal to Rent the Road: There Is a Risk of Sovereignty Compromises - Yeghoyan
Armenia has rejected the idea of leasing a 42-kilometer stretch of road through Syunik, according to a deputy. The proposal to lease the road was made by American negotiators, but Armenia deemed such a format unacceptable.
This was stated by Arman Yeghoyan, a representative of the 'Civil Contract' faction, during a broadcast on Factor TV. 'We saw the risk not so much in the actual implementation of the functions but rather in the rental itself. This could lead to compromises on issues of sovereignty. Such an option was unacceptable for us,' emphasized the deputy.
According to the deputy, there had been an exchange of ideas between the parties, but discussions were halted after the Armenian side's rejection. 'If we have said no, then it is a no,' Yeghoyan stressed.
